PINOLE, Contra Costa County — October 24, 2026. Residents on Shea Drive, Pinole Valley Road and Marlesta Road have been experiencing street work as Pinole moves toward the final stages of its 2026 Pavement Rehabilitation Project. The city’s October 6 work notice lists a construction period of September 21 through October 31, 2026 and identifies McGuire & Hester as the contractor.
Three locations, different tasks
The work is not a single identical repair across all blocks. On Shea Drive, from Pinole Valley Road to Sarah Drive, municipal schedules included speed-bump installation, adjustments to road hardware and final striping. On Pinole Valley Road, between the bridge and Simas Avenue, tasks included pavement digouts, crack repairs, slurry treatment and striping. On Marlesta Road, between Appian Way and Marionola, the city described milling, paving, hardware adjustments and striping.
These dates come from the published construction schedule and are not a guarantee that individual stages have passed final inspection or that every road marking was complete on October 24. Weather, materials, equipment and field conditions can affect the sequencing.
What the contractor and city have told residents
The municipal notice warns of temporary lane closures, reduced speeds, driveway access delays and posted no-parking zones while crews are present. The city asks drivers to move parked vehicles when notices are displayed, allow more time for trips and follow flagger instructions. Parents and pet owners should also keep children and animals away from active equipment.
The work includes accessibility improvements
A separate September 15 city announcement says the Shea Drive portion covers approximately half a mile and includes new accessible curb ramps, a high-visibility crossing, and raised crosswalks. The city says the road’s baseline pavement condition was poor and expects a significant improvement from reconstruction. Such expectations are engineering objectives; an independent post-construction survey would be required to verify the final pavement condition.
Why local monitoring matters
Street reconstruction can produce temporary inconvenience for residents, but also offers measurable results: smoother driving, pedestrian accessibility, improved striping and fewer deteriorated pavement patches. Taxpayers can ask how construction costs compare with the final awarded contract, what inspections were performed and whether maintenance warranties apply.
For specific access needs, the city lists Pinole Public Works at 510-724-9910 and the contractor field office at 510-632-7676. The city’s road-repair page is another source for project changes.
